Why the University of Illinois?
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign offers one of the finest actuarial science programs in the world. The university offers outstanding faculty, a high level of employer involvement--both on and off campus, and the invaluable Actuarial Science Club.
While no ranking is available to compare actuarial programs, the actuarial program at the University of Illinois is certainly one of the best programs in the United States. Unlike some other programs, the actuarial program at the University of Illinois is a very well-rounded program. Students learn many subjects important in the health, property, and casualty fields, as well as the traditional instruction related to life contingencies and insurance.
We believe that the strength of our program is shown not only by the accomplishments of our faculty, but also by the success of our students. Employers seem to agree. Every year, almost thirty different firms from across the country come to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to recruit students from our actuarial science program. The great diversity of these companies is a compliment to the diversity of our program. Life insurers, property/casualty insurers, health insurers, employee benefits consultants, and property/casualty consultants all compete heavily on campus for recruits. Some of these firms are so committed to the strength of our program that they come to campus many times a year to help our students, our faculty, and the Actuarial Science Club with different needs, as well as to increase their presence on campus.
