What does the ASC do?

The Actuarial Science Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign exists to help students in their study of actuarial science and to facilitate communication between students and prospective employers. We do this through a variety of activities and events, the most important of which are our annual Meet the Firms and Actuarial Recruitment Conference.

Below is a sample of the many activities and events that we coordinate and plan:

Meet the Firms

Our annual Meet the Firms Night is scheduled this year for September 24th. Over thirty companies are expected to come to campus to give students a chance to get to know more about their company. Meet the Firms is facilitated by the Actuarial Science Club. Though it is a formal business dress event, it gives students a much more casual way to get to meet actuarial recruiters than an interview format.

Recruitment Conference

Our annual Recruitment Conference will take place on October 19th and November 05th, allowing students to interview with employers for summer internship or full-time positions. About twenty firms are expected to come this year, in what is always a highly successful event. The conference is very convenient for students, who would otherwise need to travel all over to track down interviews.

Company Presentations

The Actuarial Science Club organizes company presentations, which give recruiters the chance to introduce students to their company and the numerous opportunities available for them in a more formal setting.

In the past, this has been either a general overview of the company in conjunction with a fun social event, or a complete description of the company and each area of interest to an actuary.
