To better appreciate the history of our university’s architecture and to better unite club members, descriptions about buildings and clues will be provided to guide you to the final location. More details about how to play will be provided at the event. This is a great opportunity to make new friends and network with other club members. 9/15	6pm, 1310 DCL	Workshop	CNA Insurance	In today's tough job market, you need the skills and knowledge to set yourself apart from the crowd. Interviewing is no longer just about a 30 minute question and answer session with a recruiter. Sure there may be the usual behavioral and technical questions followed by pre-rehearsed answers, but you will need to cultivate a professional relationship with the recruiters to stand out. Come out to the "Interviewing: How to Separate Yourself from the Rest" presentation by Jeffrey Pfluger and Brian Alvin to learn how to build these relationships, understand what it means to be professional, and how to master the interview to land your dream job. We will also briefly discuss a few guidelines specific to building an actuarial resume.

This will be an informational session where students will have the opportunity to sit down at tables, have some pizza, and ask questions to our practitioners. We will have 8 practitioners there from our 4 different groups: Retirement, Health, P&C, and Life. We’re very excited to meet all of you!

We will have consultants from our health, financial risk management and casualty practices. These consultants will explain to the students what they do on a daily basis and why they chose to work at Milliman. 9/29	4pm, TBA	Meet the Firms Career Fair	ASC	Meet the Firms is a career fair for Actuarial Science students. This event is open to University of Illinois students interested in pursuing a career in Actuarial Science. Students of all years (from freshman to graduate students) are encouraged to attend. Both consulting and insurance (P&C, and life/health) companies are coming to the event. The purpose of Meet the Firms is: 1. Learn more about the internship and full-time opportunities that companies have to offer. Talk to as many companies as possible, and ask meaningful questions! 2. Try to obtain an internship/ full time offer! Companies at the fair are recruiting for talented students, and will invite prospective students for interviews.

The Actuarial Foundation was established to help facilitate and broaden the profession’s contribution to society. The Foundation explores innovative ways to help and reach out to the community using actuarial skills. Come and learn more about the Actuarial Foundation and its programs and listen to professionals share their perception of actuarial professionalism and ethics.

Want to learn about the unique challenges an actuary faces as they manage over $30 billion in loss reserves for all of CNA? Then come out to CNA’s presentation “Loss Reserving: Protecting the Balance Sheet”, to learn through an interactive case study the complex scenarios that can impact an insurance company’s loss reserves and financial results. Don’t forget to bring a calculator and your critical thinking as we work through these scenarios. We will also be covering CNA, the internship program, and other great attributes of working at CNA. 10/6	6:30pm, 1320 DCL	Company Presentation	Allianz	Over the past five years the S&P500 reached all time highs, only to lose over half its value in less than a year and a half. During this same time period, interest rates reached all time lows, then rebounded, and then fell again. For insurance companies that base their guarantees on market performance and have to invest their premiums in this volatile market, how are they to stay profitable, let alone in business? One of the answers is hedging and it has become an integral part of actuaries’ work. This presentation introduces some hedging topics and allows students to gain knowledge of what hedges are, how they are used, and what different hedge strategies look like. The presentation is followed by an interactive game that explores the benefits of dynamic vs. static hedging.

10/21	6:30am - 4:00pm Chicago, IL	Field Trip	ASC (Deloitte & Milliman)	Here comes our traditional field trip! This semester, we are having our exciting dual-company office visit. The trip will feature the Chicago branches of Deloitte and Milliman and will give us an inside look of the working life of the actuaries. The trip is a great chance for underclassmen to get a first hand look at what actuaries do in real world for someone unsure of the career they would dedicate to. As for upperclassmen, this is a precious opportunity for you to network with the professionals and get something to talk about in your interviews. This trip will only accommodate 40 members so spots are limited and will fill up fast. 8-29	Kickoff Picnic	ASC	Picnic on the quad with your new AMP buddies, the executive board, and fellow club members. A great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon, meet new people, and play some frisbee and football. Sub sandwiches, snacks, and ice cream cake will be provided for your enjoyment.

9-9	MtF Information	ASC	MTF informational night was held by ASC officers in order to provide crucial information to students regarding MtF. We reviewed the requirements for attending MtF, goals of the event, resume building and critiquing, appropriate attire, Q&A, and much more. While all students were welcome, the night was aimed at first time attendees.
9-10	Workshop	CNA	Are you looking to make that perfect resume to set yourself apart from other candidates? Do you want to know how to have a successful interview and leave a great impression? If so, then you definitely want to come to the “Resume and Interview Workshop” hosted by Brian Alvin and Jen Yeh from CNA on Thursday, September 10th at 6:00pm in the Digital Computer Lab (DCL) room 1320. The evening will be divided into two sections, focusing on the resume and the interview. The Resume: --Learn how to organize your resume in the optimal way to show off your talents and display your accomplishments with real examples --Understand what employers are looking for in a resume and what they are not --Find out how to make your resume stand out from a pile of other resumes and lead to the interview The Interview: --Discover what makes a great interview stand out from a good interview --Learn about hot topics and things to avoid that could ruin an interview --Understand behavioral questions and case studies and how to master each --Locate additional skills to master the interview with and ultimately lead to a full-time offer from the company of your dreams Whether you are a freshman just starting to make your first resume or a senior looking to finalize your perfect resume and brush up on interviewing techniques, there will be something for everyone. For those that have attended in the past, there will be new information as well that you won’t want to miss out on.
9-16	Company Presentation	Deloitte	Deloitte wants to provide students with an opportunity to get to know what really consulting actuaries do. They are sending 5 representatives from 4 different departments (Property and Casualty, Pension, Health, and Life) to expose the consulting world to our club. The format is a round table discussion in which groups will be formed with 1 associate and a group of club members to discuss life in the actuarial world.
9-17	Company Presentation	State Farm	Actuaries from both the Research Center on campus and Corporate headquarters will be there to talk about the careers at State Farm as well as perform case studies too. 9-19	AMP Sports Day	ASC	Come enjoy some free snacks, pop, and ice cream while hanging out with your AMP buddies on a sunny Saturday afternoon. There will be a bags tournament and volleyball game for prizes.
9-23	Company Presentation	Towers Perrin	"Careers at Towers Perrin - A Total Reward” Some of you want to better understand what career potential you have in the consulting world. Others want to get a better grasp of what we, as consultants, do for our clients. This session will integrate both of those concepts together in a terrific live case study that will help you get a better sense of Towers Perrin...and yourself.
9-24	Meet The Firms		The Actuarial Science Meet the Firms is an annual career fair where companies come onto campus to meet and network with students, answer any questions students may have, and collect resumes. At the same time, students can learn about the actuarial profession and the opportunities available.

9-30	Company Presentation	CNA	Do you want to learn about the type of work that actuaries perform on a day to day basis at a commercial property and casualty insurance company such as CNA Insurance? Are you interested in learning about the challenges actuaries face and the skills necessary to succeed in a fast paced environment? Then come out to CNA's presentation! The pricing case study will be a fun, competitive way to learn more about the challenges actuaries face every day and learn about the insurance market from a first-hand perspective. You will flex your critical thinking muscles in teams to price a policy while maintaining a competitive position against others. Ice cream treats will be served, and a prize will be given to the winning case study team.
9-30	ASC Tutoring Sessions Begin		Every Wednesday Night from 8:00-10:30pm, Gregory Hall 221 Having problems doing your homework? Having problems in actuarial exams? Come to our tutoring session to join the group and meet with the "experts" in Math 210, 409, 471, 476... and Exam P, FM, MLC, MFE, C
10-1	Workshop	Career Center	A one hour workshop that includes types of interviews, interview preparation and responses to typical behavioral questions. This workshop is conducted by a trained and experienced staff member from the Career Center. This will be a great way to learn more about interviews and the possible questions that you might encounter during interviews, especially if you are a first timer.
10-7	Company Presentation	Hewitt	With more than 65 years of experience, Hewitt Associates is the world's foremost provider of human resources outsourcing and consulting services. Hewitt consults with more than 2,300 companies and administers human resources, health care, payroll and retirement programs on behalf of more than 300 companies to a million employees and retirees worldwide. Located in 35 countries, Hewitt employs approximately 20,000 associates. On October 7th at 6 pm (Digital Computer Lab, Room 1320), Hewitt will be on campus to discuss many of the available opportunities we have to offer. We will also be completing a short case study focused on our "Hot Zone Analyzer" tool. The Hot Zone Analyzer is used to illustrate the many characteristics such as age, service years, and compensation levels of a company's retiree population as well as how those individuals will be affected by a company's retirement plan redesign. During the case study, we will discuss how Hewitt consultants use the tool to explore the different viewpoints of those affected by the redesign to create a representative solution for the company. We will also be on hand to answer any questions students may have regarding Hewitt or the actuarial career, in general. We look forward to seeing everyone there. Papa Del's pizza will be served.
10-8	Company Presenation	Allstate P&C	Please join us on Thursday, October 8th, at 6:00 pm in Room 1320 of Digital Computer Lab for Food, Prizes, and a Presentation on Property & Casualty Actuarial Internships at Allstate Insurance Company. We’ll go over the Summer Internship Program at Allstate as well as discuss the dynamic actuarial work and career of a Property & Casualty Actuary at Allstate. There will be chances to win gift card prizes for some lucky game show participants! We really hope you can join us for an informative and fun evening!
10-14	Company Presentation	Milliman	Milliman will focus on employment opportunities at our Chicago office for our health, financial risk management and casualty practices. The presentation will begin with an overview of Milliman and why its uniqueness has lead to its success. Milliman will then give a brief synopsis of what each area of practice does and what it entails. The recruiters will be more than happy to stick around afterwards to get to know students and answer any additional questions.

10-21	Barcrawl	ASC	Come join us for the ever so popular Fall Bar Crawl! Pregame with food, drinks, and a raffle for great prizes and gift cards at Joe’s.
10-28	Volunteer Event	ASC	Halloween October Funfest Wednesday, October 28th, 4:30-9pm, Marketplace Mall Halloween Funfest is an event for kids to come "trick or treat" and play games. Thousands of kids attend this event. We are looking for a group of individuals to come out and volunteer. This will be a great opportunity to help out in the community and represent the Actuarial Science club. We request to have volunteers arrive around 4:30pm to get their stations and games set up by 5:40pm. If you do not want to run games, we also could use volunteers to help run candy drop offs, check on our volunteers, crowd control and numerous other miscellaneous tasks. ASC is responsible for three game booths (~6 people each booth) so please come volunteer if you can! Feel free to wear a costume or Halloween apparel to interact and have fun with the kids!
11-4	Meet Your Professors	ASC	Come out and join some of your favorite Actuarial Science Professors as they answer questions from club members. This Question and Answer style forum will allow the club to ask the professors ANY question. Come with questions prepared to ask them. This presentation will last no more than an hour...so if you have a little free time today or just need to take a break from studying, come out to Meet the Professors.
