The Actuarial Science Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign’s objective is to aid students in pursuing excellence in the field of Actuarial Science. The club strives to support our 250 members in both their education and pursuit of employment. The Actuarial Science Club’s Executive Board, consisting of 10 club members (some elected, some appointed) labors to provide students at the University with an optimal experience.
To ensure academic success, the club arranges for tutoring sessions, where both coursework and exam support is provided. Ultimately, however, the club’s biggest focus is on assisting students in search of employment. This is the greatest single need of our club members, and the support we provide for it is a point of pride for the club and the Actuarial Science program at the University of Illinois in general. We offer both a career fair and on-campus interviewing opportunities. In addition, we provide for a multitude of company presentations and preparatory seminars that prepare club members for relevant techniques such as resume building and interviewing.
Our club also plays host to graduate students pursuing a Master’s Degree in Actuarial Science. Furthermore, the Actuarial Science Club seeks to encourage camaraderie between club members through our mentorship program and a variety of social events. Through our myriad offerings, the Actuarial Science Club strives to be an integral part of the Actuarial Science Program at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
What does Actuarial Science Club do?
The Actuarial Science Club at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign exists to help students in their study of actuarial science and to facilitate communication between students and prospective employers. We do this through a variety of activities and events, the most important of which are our annual Meet the Firms and Actuarial Recruitment Conference.
Below is a sample of the many activities and events that we coordinate and plan:
Meet the Firms - Our annual Meet the Firms Night is scheduled this year for September 23th. Over thirty companies are expected to come to campus to give students a chance to get to know more about their company. Meet the Firms is facilitated by the Actuarial Science Club. Though it is a formal business dress event, it gives students a much more casual way to get to meet actuarial recruiters than an interview format.
Recruitment Conference - Our annual Recruitment Conference will take place on October 20th, 21st and 22nd, allowing students to interview with employers for summer internship or full-time positions. About twenty firms are expected to come this year, in what is always a highly successful event. The conference is very convenient for students, who would otherwise need to travel all over to track down interviews.
Company Presentations - The Actuarial Science Club organizes company presentations, which give recruiters the chance to introduce students to their company and the numerous opportunities available for them in a more formal setting.
In the past, this has been either a general overview of the company in conjunction with a fun social event, or a complete description of the company and each area of interest to an actuary. |
